Design, proportions and details
The closed footstool measures 80 x 70 cm and stands 50 cm high. Its mattress is 80 x 195 cm and 12 cm thick, so check both the stored footprint and the clear floor area needed to unfold the complete bed.
The folding mechanism determines the dimensions and sequence of opening. Keep the area in front clear, and consider where the outer upholstered cover or top sections will sit during use. Mattress size should be checked independently of the closed footstool depth.
Opening the footstool creates a much longer piece than its closed top suggests. The 195 cm mattress length should be considered alongside the folding frame, with a clear approach to the sleeping surface once the bed is in position.
The outer cover is removable, so the piece can be used every day as part of a living room without making the hidden bed obvious. To convert it, remove the cover and unfold the internal frame.
An ottoman bed is particularly useful when a full sofa bed would be too large: it can sit beside a sofa, in a study or in a guest room and only reveals its second function when required.
