Leichester gives the Chesterfield headboard an enclosing, winged shape. Its deep sides project around the buttoned centre, making the headboard a substantial upholstered structure rather than a thin panel placed behind the pillows.
Design, proportions and details
The headboard is 136 cm high and 30 cm thick, with a width allowance of 64 cm beyond the bed-frame footprint. Check those wings against bedside furniture: a mattress that fits comfortably in the room does not guarantee that the complete headboard will.
Base and headboard proportions need to be considered together. A storage base introduces a lifting slatted platform and a finished compartment beneath it, while the fixed-base alternative changes the construction below the same decorative upper form.
The illustrated Leichester uses a 160 x 195 cm sleeping area within a 168 x 233 cm bed-frame footprint. That still leaves the wider winged headboard to consider at the wall. This distinction is especially useful in a fitted bedroom, where the headboard may meet bedside units even though the mattress and lower frame appear to fit comfortably between them.
Leichester develops the Chesterfield language into a much taller, more enveloping headboard. Its side wings curve inward and are finished with regular pleats, giving the bed a strong architectural presence in spacious bedrooms.
