Michelangelo uses an 80 cm square form to display deep buttoning across a broad upholstered surface. Its scale makes it more prominent than a small footstool, especially when placed centrally between a sofa and armchairs.
Design, proportions and details
The decorated sides allow it to be viewed from around the seating group. Leave enough passage between the ottoman and the surrounding seats, and compare its finished height with the cushions if it will be used primarily for foot support.
The top is padded and buttoned, producing an uneven upholstered surface rather than a hard, flat table. Hand-shaped folds continue the Chesterfield-inspired treatment over the structure, and their spacing is related to the size of the piece.
Michelangelo’s square shape can align with a rug or sit between angled chairs. Leave a usable gap around each side rather than filling the whole space between the seats.
Michelangelo is a square ottoman completely covered with continuous deep-buttoned workmanship. Instead of limiting the technique to the seat, the tufting continues across the visible sides, turning the surface treatment into the defining element of the piece.
The standard proportion is generous enough to function as a central living-room ottoman as well as a footrest. Custom sizes can be evaluated while preserving the regular spacing and symmetry of the button pattern.
