Harlequin combines different leather colours within the Chesterfield‘s deep-buttoned design. The patchwork is planned across the sofa rather than left to chance, allowing colour placement to become part of the upholstery design itself.
Design, proportions and details
An outline drawing is used to agree where each leather will appear. Consider the balance across the whole sofa, including the arms, back and cushions, rather than choosing individual colours without seeing how they meet.
A beech-and-fir structure supports shaped foam beneath the stitched and hand-folded upholstery. The colour joins and buttoning need to work together, making the placement of each panel as important as the choice of leather finish.
The patchwork outline can be used to review the balance before production. A dominant colour on the cushions creates a different composition from the same colour concentrated on the arms, even when the selected leather palette is unchanged.
A patchwork plan can start from one dominant leather and use the other colours as smaller accents, or distribute them more evenly across the frame. Those approaches produce different visual balances even with the same selection of hides. Review the drawing from the front and include the sides if they will remain visible in the room.
The colour arrangement also needs to respect the hand-buttoned pattern. A panel that appears broad before upholstery will be folded into the capitonné, so the finished example and layout drawing should be considered together. Confirm the selected leathers, their positions and the sofa dimensions as one specification before production.
